TURNING VIRGINIA INTO NEW JERSEY INTO ?

Thursday morning, 18 October my wife and I entered Route 66 eastbound from Centreville at six-thirty in the morning. Forty-five minutes later I turned off Rt 66 north onto the beltway. What should have been a twenty to twenty-five minute drive at that time in the morning was more than doubled by three large traffic backups. The first two backups were caused by police pulling over HOV cheaters and the last backup was caused by police pulling over lone drivers using the HOV ramp onto the beltway. In other words all three delays to commuters, businesses, and the economy were caused by social engineering masquerading as “congestion”.

We are told we need “more” money for what? More HOV? More expensive police equipped to fight a war to enforce social agendas? More delays of our economy and drivers and commuters? After all, drivers are little better than those vilified speeders: that is to say merely revenue generators for politicians to make voters believe “someone else” is paying for everything. During this election period it is time to call a spade a spade and consider the future of Virginia.

HOV lanes do NOT help commuters or travelers. The cars excluded from these lanes pay MORE taxes than HOV users to build roads so the myth of benefits is even more redundant. Many of the drivers in these underutilized LEFT lanes are slow drivers that belong in the RIGHT lanes. The gas taxes for road construction and road (and bridge) maintenance are being squandered on social agendas such as forced carpooling and “native plantings” and “beautification” and bike paths and metro connections etc. instead of what they were and are supposed to be intended for. Simultaneously we are bombarded by Governors and legislators to believe we have a crisis in transportation funding and have to raise taxes and punish speeders at a level that should evoke Amnesty International while remaining hostile to Federal regulations regarding illegal immigrants (i.e. “sanctuaries”) and championing leniency for every crook and thug caught harming the rest of us.

Those policemen were wasting millions spent on their equipment and training to enforce the same sort of socialist engineering flowing out of Boston into Massachusetts, Chicago into Illinois, San Francisco into California, and “Northern” New Jersey into New Jersey. Look at the political ads for confirmation. Ban guns here and there and eventually everywhere; raise taxes; spend the taxes on everything except what was touted. Schools failing? Raise teacher salaries. Traffic backups on inadequate roads through National Parks like Manassas Battlefield? Close the roads and condemn homes and communities to build bypasses that further harm local people, soak up more tax funds, and lengthen commutes even more. Northern Virginia is more and more like those urban enclaves that harm everyone else and their rights and freedoms with impunity due to their insular and misguided notions.

Look at New Jersey if you want to see Virginia in a few years as Northern Virginia “values” overshadow the state. Like New Jersey we will be tickled as more western land is bought by government and shutdown and we will “tsk-tsk” about westerners killed by Federally protected bears and anti-hunting proposals from Congressmen like Alexandria’s Moran and we will never meet a government growth spurt or tax hike we won’t embrace. We will always support more taxes and always agree that “the rest of Virginia” should be in Federal Heritage Areas or under government land control easements and that rural residents should not be allowed to have guns or trap or burn wood or even cut a tree. Ever talk to former New Jersey residents where the Governor ignores the laws for the “common” people and laws and regulations and snitches abound and corruption is as common as beans in Boston? Their stories are like something from the survivors of refugee migrations from socialist and communist nations around the globe.

Northern Virginians should look carefully at New Jersey. New Jersey should look carefully at what? Zimbabwe? Belarus? Venezuela? Cuba?
